Abstract
481,802. Washing gases. RUWOLDT, J. A. L. Sept. 14, 1936, No. 25036. [Class 55(ii)] Apparatus for washing dust from air or gases comprises a main casing 1, a hot pipe 22 extending therethrough, gauze-covered gas inlets 6 with vanes 7 causing entering air to pass in a whirling stream round the hot pipe, and at the opposite end of the casing a water chamber 10 with a heater therein associated with the hot pipe for generating steam or water vapour and introducing it into the gas stream so as to precipitate particles into the water. The pipe 22 extends vertically through an inner casing 2 open at its lower end so that gas passing down through it passes over the water and rises between the casings 1, 2 through a space 15 containing a plate 18 with vanes 19, louvre plates 14 and baffles 17. The upper part of the pipe is surrounded by a flue 23 with apertures 24 to allow hot air to escape. The pipe 22 is heated by steam or exhaust gas, which also passes into a casing 25 in the water to heat water in open-ended vertical tubes 26 therein, so that steam or water vapour passes into the gas. An air jacket 28 surrounds the casing 25. The distance between the end of the pipe 22 and a shoulder 29 on the casing is adjustable to regulate the heating of the water. Sludge in the water chamber passes through a valve 32 to a detachable cup 31 and when the latter is removed, a spring 35 closes the valve. An electric heater may be used in place of exhaust gas.
