Abstract
1,137,775. Heating air by waste gases. H. VON AULOCK. 29 April, 1966 [4 March, 1966], No. 19028/66. Heading F4S. [Also in Division B2] In a refuse-burning installation, e.g. for the disposal of waste paper, the smoke produced is passed via a conduit 18 and a chamber 17 through cyclone separators 11 mounted in a housing 10 and having vortex-producing vanes 14 at their inlet ends, separated dust being collected in a lower chamber in the housing and the cleaned smoke being discharged via vortex finders 15 into an upper chamber 30. The smoke may be blown through the conduit 18 or it may be drawn therethrough by means of a blower 31 which discharges the cleaned smoke into a chimney via a passage 33. Air to be heated, for use in a warm air heating installation, is drawn by a blower 22 via a filter 19 into a passage 20 through which extend the separators 11 which at this region are provided with fins 16 to improve the heat transfer between the smoke and the air. The blower delivers the heated air through tubes 23 extending through the chamber 30 in which it is further heated by the cleaned smoke. The warm air is discharged into a chamber 24 which communicates with the space to be heated through adjustable louvres 25. Control of the air temperature may be effected by means of fresh air admitted to the passage 20 via a valve 26. Alternatively, the direction of flow of the air to be heated may be reversed, the preheating taking place first through the tubes 23 and final heating in the vicinity of the heat-exchange surfaces of the vortex separators 11.
