Abstract

481,687. Valves; cylinder ports. FILTNESS, O. Dec. 14, 1936, No. 34250. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] The inlet and exhaust valves are arranged at the side of the cylinder with their stems extending from that side of the valve heads which faces the direction-of opening, and so that each valve seat faces the inside of the combustion chamber and is partly in line with the cylinder bore. The Figure shows one of the valves 3 so arranged, the stem 4 extending in the direction the valve opens, namely downwards, the head entering a recess 11 when fully open, so as to leave a clear passage for the gases. The valves may be actuated by pull-rods 14 connected to levers 15 engaging cams 7. Adjustable screwed connections may be provided between the valve stems and the rods 14.
