Abstract

Valves. - The fuel-injection valve is arranged centrally within an annular valve serving both for inlet and for exhaust, and these functions may further be controlled by a rotary valve, or by two or more sleeve or poppet valves arranged behind the main valve. Fig. 1 shows the fuel valve n seating within a fixed member e, the outer edge of which forms a seating for a sliding annular valve d, which controls inlet and exhaust through passages i and has a further seating at h. The valve d is connected by rods j to a cap k acted on by a spring m. In a modification, Fig. 2, the valve d is a beat valve of annular shape, the air-inlet and exhaust passages v, w being further controlled by a rotary valve u. In another form, the annular valve is replaced by a series of poppet valves arranged around the fuel valve. In a further arrangement, the inlet and exhaust passages, diverging from the main valve, are each controlled by a poppet valve actuated automatically or mechanically. These poppet valves mav be actuated from the cam shaft by racks and pinions.
