Abstract
481,055. Vacuum cleaners. AIR-WAY ELECTRIC APPLIANCE CORPORATION. April 8, 1937, No. 9972. Convention date, April 13, 1936. [Class 8 (i)] In a vacuum cleaner the fan outlet-pipe 21, Fig. 2, and the handle 24, which carries the bag, can be oscillated about the centre of the fan spindle 16 in a gap a, b in the periphery 14 of the fan casing. The gap is closed by a plate 20, Figs. 2 and 3, which is secured to the pipe 21 and slides in a groove 15 formed between the periphery 14 and the sides 12 of the fan casing. Two fans 17 are employed, one on each side of a partition 18, which is secured to the plate 20, and carries the fan scroll 19, the latter being also secured to the pipe 21. The fan is driven by a motor 30, which also drives beaters 33. The motor is carried by a rubber mounting 35, 36. In a modification, Fig. 4, the outlet pipe 21a has an extension 21d, which bears on the exterior of a part 14b of the fan housing, concentric with the fan spindle 16. The outlet has also an extension 21c, which slides inside another concentric portion 14a of the fan housing. A flange 21b on the extension 21c passes between the walls of the fan housing and a tongue 19b forming an extension of the periphery 19a of the periphery of the fan housing. The flanges 21b are packed by rubber strips p, and the extensions 21c 21d are packed by rubber strips p<11>, p<111>.
