Abstract

480,259. Concrete roads; blocks. HARTIGAN, G. F. X. Aug. 18, 1936, No. 22752. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] A method of constructing a concrete road or floor consists in dividing the road into a number of bays by means of preformed members A, Fig. 7, of concrete or like material, and subsequently filling the bays with concrete which is then tamped. The members A have recesses B, or are otherwise shaped, so that they key with the concrete and may be coated on both sides with bitumen or like substance to allow for the expansion and contraction of the concrete. The members A, in the form shown in Fig. 1, have recesses B on one side alternating with similar recesses on the other side. Holes F are provided for the reception of the reinforcing rods G. In a modification, the members are formed with a number of transverse openings which, prior to the introduction of the concrete into the bays, are closed by sheets of metal, asbestos, or other material. The filling sheets are coated with a bituminous paint and are formed with openings for the reception of the reinforcing rods G. In a further modification the members are provided with tongues and recesses for keying with the concrete.
