Abstract
480,144. Cable systems. OKONITE-CALLENDER CABLE CO., Inc. Dec. 1, 1936, No. 7055/37. Convention date, Dec. 7, 1935. Divided out of 478,850. [Class 36] In an underground electric distribution system comprising a pipe line 1 containing insulated conductors 2 connected to transformers 3, the conductors and transformers being submerged in oil 7 with which the pipe line is filled, cooling of the transformers is effected by short pipes 12 arranged within the pipe line and having their inner ends disposed adjacent the upper portions of the transformers and at a lower level than their outer ends 13. Hot oil surrounding the transformers passes through the pipes 12 where it is cooled by the relatively cool oil surrounding the pipes and by the dissipation of heat from the surface of the adjacent parts of the pipe, the cooled oil returning to the pipe line and then passing back to the transformers through ports 11 in baffles 10 which support the transformers.
