Abstract

1,190,925. Conductors. WATSON NORIE Ltd., and E. J. COLE. 2 Oct., 1967 [1 July, 1966], No. 29631/66. Heading H1A. An elongated conductor has a plurality of longitudinal cooling fins extending from its sides in planes containing or parallel to the longitudinal central axis of the conductor. As shown in Fig. 1, an octagonal cross-section aluminium conductor has radial fins F 1 projecting about 2/3 of the various radial distances towards the centre. The fins may be shorter and their number increased (Fig. 2, not shown). The conductor may have a circular profile. When used (Fig. 4, not shown) to connect a generator to a transformer, the conductor is cooled by forced air flowing from a heat exchanger through a surrounding jacket (4) and back through the conductor. Alternatively the conductor may be cooled by convection or water.
