Abstract
323,408. Fries, E. Dec. 5, 1928, [Convention date]. Transformers.-In an arrangement for indicating the temperature of the oil in an oil-immersed transformer, means are provided for supplying oil from the neighbourhood of the hot parts of the transformer direct to the indicating device. In one arrangement, iron tubes 5, 6 located adjacent the windings 4 and core 2 respectively and heated by induced currents are connected by insulating pipes 7, 8 to a receptacle 9 into which a thermometer t projects so that oil at a temperature corresponding to that of the core and windings is brought into contact with the thermometer. In another arrangement, the tubes 5, 6 are made to form parts of the windings and core respectively. In high tension transformers in which the thermometer may be at a considerable distance from the core and windings, the pipes 7, 8 may be surrounded by tubes of larger diameter forming oil jackets to reduce transfer of heat from the pipe walls to the main body of oil.
