Abstract

479,973. Cable systems. OKONITE-CALLENDER CABLE CO., Inc. Dec. 1, 1936, No. 32932. Convention date, Dec. 7, 1935. [Class 36] [Also in Group XIII] A distribution system comprises a buried pipe line 1, Fig. 1, containing insulated conductors 7 connected to transformers 8, and an insulating fluid 9, such as oil or gas, in which the insulated conductors and transformers are submerged, heat radiating fins 10 being provided on the exterior surface of the pipe line adjacent the transformers to facilitate dissipation of heat produced in the transformers. To provide additional cooling a second pipe line 2, Fig. 3, which may or may not contain insulated conductors, may be laid parallel with the pipe line 1, the two pipe lines being cross connected by pipes 3, 4. The pipes 4 contain motor driven pumps 5 which circulate the insulating fluid from one pipe line to the other past the transformers. In another arrangement the additional cooling is provided by motor driven propeller devices placed in the pipe line adjacent the transformers and adapted to drive the fluid away from the transformers.
