[Class 36] [Also in Group XIII] In an underground electric distribution system comprising a pipe line 1 containing insulated conductors 2 connected to transformers 3, the conductors being submerged in oil 7 With which the pipe line is filled, heat generated in the transformers is dissipated by external heat radiating pipes 4, which may have fins 5, communicating at their ends with the interior of the pipe line as shown so as to produce by thermo syphon action a flow of heated oil away from the transformers, cooling of this oil and its return to the pipe line. The pipes 4 may be located above or below ground. The thermo syphon effect may be increased by lowering the parts of the pipe line containing the transformers in relation to the main part of the pipe line. Specification 475,298 is referred to.
