Abstract

Aqueous emulsions of insecticides and fungicides for treating plants are made with the use as emulsifying or wetting agents of inorganic or organic salts of acid sulphuric acid esters derived from secondary or tertiary alcohols, particularly those having 10 to 20 carbon atoms in the molecule. Alkaline or alkaline earth salts, or salts derived from nitrogen bases such as those separated from the acid tar from cracking benzene refining, are suitable. The acid sulphuric ester may be prepared from secondary or tertiary alcohols in known manner, or olefines obtained by cracking paraffin wax in the vapour phase may be converted directly into the esters by sulphuric acid treatment. According to an example, paraffin oil is emulsified in an aqueous solution of casein and sodium salts of acid sulphuric esters derived from a mixture of secondary alcohols with 13 to 18 carbon atoms. The use of an ester derived from cholesteryl alcohol is also referred to.ALSO:Organic or inorganic salts of acid sulphonic acid esters of secondary or tertiary alcohols are used as wetting and emulsifying agents in the preparation of aqueous emulsions of insecticides and fungicides for treating plants. Esters of alcohols having 10 to 20 carbon atoms per molecule are suitable and the salts may be those of alkalis or alkaline earths or of nitrogen bases such as those separated from acid tar from cracking benzene refining. The esters may be prepared from the alcohols, such as cholesteryl alcohol, or olefines obtained by cracking paraffin wax in the vapour phase may be converted directly into the esters by sulphuric acid treatment. According to an example paraffin oil is emulsified in an aqueous solution of casein and sodium salts of acid sulphuric acid esters derived from a mixture of secondary alcohols with 13 to 18 carbon atoms.
