Abstract

478,101. Resilient mountings. GETEFO GES. FUR TECHNISCHEN FORTSCHRITT. April 20, 1937, No. 11332. Convention date, April 23, 1936. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXIV and XXV] A rubber-metal constructional element, for use as a universal shaft - coupling, Fig. 1, or as a motor-mounting, Fig. 3, comprises a one-piece rubber sleeve 5, adhering internally to a metal sleeve 4, and externally to two independent metal sleeves 3, between which latter the rubber has a constriction 9. To provide for uniform stressing, the constriction is outwardly divergent so as to result in outwardly increasing cross-section. Grooves 8 may be formed in the outer walls to cause the stress in the adhesive bond to be lower than that in the adjacent parts of the rubber sleeve. In order to cause the resiliency to decrease as the transmitted force increases, particularly when transmitting torque, the rubber body may be constructed as a three- or four-sided polygon in cross-section. In the universal joint, Fig. 1, the inner metal sleeve 4 floats, the outer metal sleeves 3 being attached to shaft-members 1. In the motor-mounting, Fig. 3, the inner metal sleeve 13 is secured to a bolt 12, fast to the motor 11, whilst the outer metal sleeves 15 are clamped in a support, and are axially split so as to contract and compress the rubber 14, when clamped.
