Abstract
403,856. Universal joints. THIRY, L., 19, Rue Vankeerberghen, Huy, Belgium. April 29, 1933, No. 12557. Convention date, May 11, 1932. [Class 80 (ii).] Between at least one end of a motor-vehicle propeller-shaft B and the usual universal joints A is or are inserted one or more indiarubber sleeves C<1>, C<2> having a compressionadhesive driving fit between a shank such as A<1> or BI, carried either by the tubular or solid shaft B or the universal joint, and an outer socket such as D, also carried by either member, or, as shown in Fig. 2, arranged as an intermediate member therebetween, with the sleeves C<1>, C<2> in series. The rubber sleeve may have a preliminary hydraulic stretching before being put in place and is compressed by reducing under pressure the diameter of the outer socket member which may be the end of the tubular propeller-shaft itself. Removable joints of the " Silentbloc " type may be used, and the universal joints A may be of the flexible disc type.
