Abstract

530,980. Universal joints. HIRST, T. E. C. June 23, 1939, No. 18292. [Class 80 (ii)] In a universal joint in which a rubber or like flexible member 1 is cemented or frictional held to members 7 secured to shaft ends 2, 3, the shaft ends are kept in alignment by a ball and socket joint secured thereto. The ball member 5 is screwed to a bolt 4 attached to one of the members 7 and presses against a socket 6 associated with the other member 7 to compress the flexible member 1. A locking screw 55 is provided.
