Abstract

590,765. Resilient mountings. METALASTIK, Ltd., GOLDSCHMIDT, M., and HIRST, A. J. April 19, 1945, No. 9783. [Class 108 (iii)] In a shock-absorbing bush of the kind comprising inner and outer rigid sleeves 1, 3 having an intermediate rubber sleeve 2 which extends beyond at least one end of one rigid sleeve to constitute a radially extending compressive element 5 between radially extending overlapping flanges or abutments 6, 4 on the inner and outer rigid sleeves, the rubber sleeve 2 and the rigid sleeves 1, 3 are made conical, or a part or parts of their length are conical and the remaining part or parts cylindrical. The compressive element 5 bears on or is bonded to a flange 4 of the sleeve 3 and its upper surface extends upwardly and inwardly to encircle the extending end of the sleeve 1 to define a peripheral groove in conjunction with the lower annular surface of the abutment 6, the groove being normally open but becoming closed under excessive load. A similar recoil limiting constructions may be employed at the lower end of the mounting, or as shown, a flanged disc 7 on the inner sleeve 1 may carry a rubber ring, not shown, which may engage the end of the outer sleeve 3 under excessive load. The abutments 6, 7 may be secured by a central bolt passing through a boss or spider 8 on the sleeve 1. Specification 493,899 is referred to.
