Abstract

895,798. Hydro-pneumatic shock absorbers. SOC. APPLICAZIONI GAMMA ANTIVIBRANTI S.p.A. Nov. 15, 1960 [Dec. 24, 1959], No. 39184/60. Class 108(3). A mechanical-pneumatic shock absorber unit for vehicle suspensions comprises a telescopic shock absorber 8 whose casing carries a rigid annular flange 5 which is vulcanised to the opposing ends of two coaxially aligned rubber-metal springs 1, 2 and 3, 4 the latter, of the greater stiffness, acting as a vibration filter to damp out higher frequency vibrations. The shock absorber stem 14 is pivoted at 13 to a bifurcated member 12 sealingly secured to the bottom of a cup-shaped member 10 having its upper rim 10a in pressuretight connection with the lower edge 1a of the spring 1, 2 which is preferably reinforced by a metal ring 11. The annular flange 5 sealingly engages a sleeve 7 welded to the shock absorber casing the cup member 10 being provided with a connection 16 to an air pressure source. The upper end of the spring 3, 4 suppports a forward part A of a vehicle the member 15 being connected to an unsupported part B. The vehicle level depending upon the load can be adjusted by varying the air pressure within the spring 1, 2. Specification 734,549 is referred to.
