Abstract

475,461. Resilient supports. VOIGT, C. A. Jan. 25, 1937, No. 2215. Convention date, Jan. 25, 1936. [Class 108 (iii)] A resilient mounting for absorbing normal and lateral shocks comprises more than two independent resilient blocks adhesively secured to the fixed ana moving part or the mounting of which at least one surrounds the others in an annular arrangement in the same plane, the surfaces of the rubber adhesively secured to the metal in the case of the annular block being substantially perpendicular to the adhesive surfaces of the other blocks. As shown in Fig. 1, as applied between a body 2 and chassis 1 of a vehicle rubber rings 7, 8 are adhesively attached to annular discs 3, 4 and on their outer ends are adhesively attached to metal rings 10, 9 which are riveted to the web of a flanged disc 12 secured by a bolt 13 to the body 2. A ring of rubber 15 is adhesively attached to the flange 14 of the disc 12 and to a distance piece 6 against which the discs 3, 4 are secured by bolts 5 which may pass through the rubber ring 15. The flanged disc 12 may be in two parts each having the ring 7 or S attached thereto, the flange 14 being bent over to grip an internal metal ring attached to the rubber ring 15. In Fig. 8, the rings 7, 8 in the unstressed state abut the discs 3, 4 over only a small area 23 so that with an increasing axial load the. bearing surface increases progressively. In Fig. 10 the rings 7, 8 are arranged in the same plane in order to reduce the overall length, the ring 15 which takes the lateral thrust being arranged between or outside the rings 7, 8. The rubber blocks may be prestressed or may be made of harder or softer material. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes in Fig. 9 (Cancelled, not shown) a modification in which the ring 15 for absorbing lateral shocks is omitted. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
