LUBRICATING- :PAIDV Application filed January 30, i929, Serial No.
The presentinvention relates to improvements in lubricating pads for axle-boxes and concernsmore especially/an improved lubricating pad for use n axle-boxes of railway vehicles.
The primary object of 'this invention is to provide a very compact and elastic lubricating pad which shall be placed under the wheel axle inthe axle-box and shall stay in the right position without'losing parts of wool or cotton as ordinarily happens with the waste cotton generally used for the same object.
Another object is to provide a lubricating pad which will stand a long wear and which, to that effect, can be used successively on every side, owing to its great elasticity. i
A further and most important object is to rovide inside the pad an elastic frame whlch shall keep inside the wool covering and shall not cut thru the covering, thus causing damage to the axle or to the axle-box.
A still further object is to provide an improved lubricating pad adapted to simplify and facilitate the man facture of the same.
These objects are accomplished by the improved construction of the lubricating pad hereinafter disclosed and illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a View of the inner frame.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section along the axis of the frame showing the complete pad.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same, perpendicular to the axis of the frame.
A thin sheet of steel 1, of proper dimensions is bent in shape of a cylinder, shown in Fig. l. The two edges meeting are riveted to each other thru the holes 3`or can be sealong the edges of the cylinder and small projecting parts 2, formed inte al with the sheet l, are provided along t e same'edges f and are somewhat bent towards the inside of the cylinder.
