Jan. 29, 1931, No. 2951. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1930. Addition to 368,876. [Class 80 (ii).] In a flexible coupling according to the parent Specification, wherein there is an elastic member adapted, as the result of deformation due to axial mass tension, to exert a high radial pressure on torque transmitting surfaces at least one of which is curvilinear longitudinally of the axes, the mass tension of the elastic member 14 is greater in the region of its longitudinal centre than at other parts, when the axes are aligned. For this purpose the torque transmitting surfaces are nearer together at their centre than at their ends, and they may have different radii of curvature. Either member 12, 13 may be cylindrical, the other being curved, or a sleeve with tapering ends may be interposed between concentric members. The undesirable increase in mass tension of the rubber sleeve 14 consequent on angular deflection of the axes is thereby avoided, and the joint is self-centring.
