Abstract
475,704. Cables. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Dec. 15, 1936, No. 34477. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1935. [Class 36] A cable has spacing members comprising thin walled cylindrical hollow bodies of springy or elastic insulating material, having two end walls and furnished with a slot extending into the end walls, the slot being so shaped and dimensioned as to hold the spacing member in a self-locking manner on the central conductor. The spacing members may be of hard paper, hard rubber, polystyrol or other resin, or a ceramic insulating substance. The spacing member may be formed as shown in Fig. 3, the slot 12 having a radial extension 13 and a central notch to receive the conductor. Alternatively, the spacing member may be formed by stamping from a band of insulating material, as in Figs. 6, 10, or 12, the stamping being bent into cylindrical form and the lugs 16, 22, or 27 being bent inwardly to engage the conductor : in the forms shown in Figs. 10 and 12, extensions 23 or 26 provide additional support for the outer conductor. The outer conductor 19, Fig. 8, is formed of metal bands stranded over the spacing members and over the metal bands are provided a band winding 20, a water-tight jacket 21 and, if desired, further protective layers and a metallic sheathing.
