Abstract
514,412. Cables. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. May 5, 1938, No. 13464. Convention date, May 5, 1937. [Class 36] An air space cable comprises a conductor 10 spaced from a surrounding layer 13 by means of one or more spacers each comprising a continuous flexible carrier 11 and one or more elements 12 wound with spaced turns on the carrier 11, the carrier or each carrier being of insulating material which is less suitable for high frequency insulation than the material of which the element or elements 12 is or are made. The carriers 11 may be of paper or hard rubber and the elements 12 of polystyrol or polyvinyl chloride. The layer 13 of insulating material is surrounded by grooved outer conductor bands 14, 15, a conductive band winding 17, an insulating band winding 18 and a water-tight jacket 19. In another form, Fig. 2, the conductor 20 is spaced from an insulating layer 23 by means of elements 22 of polystyrol wound on carriers 21 of polyvinyl chloride and the layer 23 is spaced from another insulating layer 26 by means of elements 25 of hard rubber or polyvinyl chloride wound on carriers 24 of paper. The cables may comprise more than two concentric conductors or may include twisted pairs or quads.
