Abstract
478,100. Cables. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. April 16, 1937, No. 10945. Convention date, Oct. 31, 1936. [Class 36] An air-space cable comprises one or more sleeves each consisting of several bands of set form insulating material and of segmental cross-section with which inwardly directed spacing members bearing upon the conductor are firmly connected, the necessary flexibility of the cable being attained by the bands being twisted around the conductor or being provided with cross grooves or both. Bands 11, 12, Fig. 1, have cross grooves 13 which themselves form the inwardly directed spacing members bearing upon the conductors 10; an open band winding 14 retains the bands 11, 12 in position. In another form, Fig. 2, the grooves 23 on the bands 21, 22 are relatively staggered and conducting bands 24, 25 having grooves 26 staggered with respect to the grooves 23 are provided; a copper band winding 27, an insulating band winding 28 and a watertight jacket 29 are also provided. In another form, the insulating bands have alternate inwardly and outwardly directed grooves, an outer conductor being stranded over the latter and insulating band windings and a watertight sheath being provided. In a further modification, bands having longitudinal spacing members are twisted around the central conductor and in further forms, cross-bars 61 are provided on the bands 60, Fig. 6, which bands are twisted around the conductor or provided with cross grooves 62. The insulating bands may be of hard rubber, hardened guttapercha, cellulose derivatives, polyacrylates, polystyrol, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride or mixed vinyl polymerizates.
