Abstract
499,776. Cables. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. July 28, 1937, No. 20932. Convention date, July 29, 1936. [Class 36] In order to supervise the accurate maintenance of the diameter of a cable during manufacture, more particularly the diameter of an outer screen or return conductor formed of copper strip stranded over a cable core with a long lay, one or more insulating or metallic strips, each having a plurality of markings accurately spaced apart in accordance with the required diameter, is or are wound round the cable and the relative positions of the markings on the wound strip or strips are utilised to indicate variations in diameter. The markings, which may be in the form of light impressions, such as figures on the strip, or in the, form of perforations, are preferably spaced at even intervals along the strip, four of these intervals corresponding to the circumference at the required diameter of the cable. The Figure shows such a marked strip 2 wound round a cable core 1, the markings 3 being so spaced as to lie along straight lines 4 so long as the diameter of the core remains at the required value. The strip or strips may serve for retaining in position the stranded bands forming a tubular return conductor of a highfrequency cable, or the strip may be formed of the material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Styroflex," being wound over the insulated inner conductor of a coaxial conductor cable to indicate deviations in diameter of the insulated conductor, which deviations may be corrected before applying the outer conductor.
