Abstract

475,148. Filling-nozzles. WHITE, R. June 13, 1936, No. 16543. [Class 125 (ii)] Containers are filled with fluid to the required height by first filling above the height and then removing excess by a suction action. A filling-nozzle comprises a barrel a and valve c supplied with fluid by gravity or otherwise, connected by a flexible rubber tube f to a collar d which carries an adjustable filling jet e, an overflow tube h, and a rubber seating to receive the mouth of the container. The container is pressed against the collar d so that the tube b lifts the valve c off its seat and the container is filled to overflowing. The container is then withdrawn, which first shuts off the supply at valve c, and then causes the rubber tube f to exert a suction effect and remove excess liquid up the tube e via aperture g into the space i. The final level of liquid is adjusted by moving the jet e in or out. The suction action may also be obtained with a pump or piston action.
