Abstract
474,621. Clockwork actuation of switches and valves. PHILIP, J. May 8, 1936, No. 13114. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXIX] A clockwork device for operating switches or valves comprises a member 30 adapted to be coupled to the switch or valve and which can be turned by a lever 29 against the action of a spring 37 and held in the set position by the engagement of a pin 31 on an arm 27 with a spring-biassed pawl 32. The tuning mechanism comprises a spindle 16 which can be turned by a knob 17 to wind a spring 21 and return slowly due to the engagement of a friction clutch 23 on spindle 16 with a wheel 24 of an escapement train. The time taken for the return movement depends on the angle through which the knob 17 is turned as shown by a pointer 19 and a scale on the casing. When the pointer returns to zero, a pin 35 on the clutch part 23 trips the pawl 32 and allows member 30 to return to its original position.
