422,849. Clocks. BREMNER PATENTS (HOLDING CO.), Ltd., and BREMNER, D. O., 1, Ironmonger Lane, London. July 15, 1933, No. 20105. [Class 139] Stop mechanism.-A start and stop device operating on the balance wheel of a lever escapement clock comprises a pivoted plate member 3, Figs. 1 and 3, with a spring wire extension 1 adapted to contact with the balance wheel 2, an arm 11 carrying a pivot 4 for the plate 3 and provided with a sleeve 6 loosely mounted on the manual operated spindle 5 and a quadrant secured to the spindle 5 and co-operating with a pin 7 on the plate 3. When the spindle 5 is moved to the position shown in Fig. 4, the pin 7 is freed and the plate 3 falls under spring action or by gravity so as to cause the wire 1 to give an impulse to the balance wheel to start the clock. On the return movement of the spindle 5 to the position in Fig. 1, the pin 7 is raised and a spring acting on the arm 11 restores the wire 1 into contact with the balance wheel to arrest it. Movement of the member 3 in either direction is limited by a fixed pin 9. The device may be applied to the clock mechanism of a device for registering or controlling the supply of gas, electricity &c. on a time basis as described in Specification 361,586, [Group XIX].
