Abstract

A positively driven or freely rotatable roller 3 is positioned to deflect material being treated in a winch dyeing or like machine from its straight passage between a driven winch roller 1 and a guide roller 2 to cause it to be brought <PICT:0473703/IV/1> into contact with a greater portion of their peripheries to increase the frictional grip of the rollers to drive the material. The guide roller 2 may, if desired, be positively driven also. The roller 3 is positioned above the level of the liquor 22 in the bath 21 to deflect the material a being treated downwards between the rollers 1 and 2 and is not associated with another roller for squeezing the material passing through the machine.
