Abstract
473,035. Metallic vapour apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., GALLIZIA, E., and SCHIFF, W. June 22, 1936, No. 17316. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] The air-cooled metal container of a vapour converter is corrugated. The condensing chamber, and also the parts of the arc chamber between the anode side arms, may be corrugated longitudinally. Parts of the condensing chamber which are located above the side arms are not corrugated to provide adequate space for the anode terminals. The side arms may be corrugated in the vicinity of each anode. In another form, a single-anode converter has its wall, the anode shield and also a shield for deflecting the arc corrugated. The container may be strengthened by intermediate rings or end rings or plates welded thereto, and the length of weld may be reduced by providing the container with plain ends or with ends which have shallow corrugations. The corrugations may have parallel or inclined sides and the depth of each corrugation may be equal to or greater than the width thereof.
