The core of a metallic arc welding electrode consists of steel containing 1 per cent of carbon, 0,1 per cent of silicon, 0,8 per cent of manganese and 1,5 per cent of chromium, or of steel containing 18 per cent of chromium, 8 per cent of nickel, 0,1 per cent of carbon, 0,5 per cent of silicon and 0,5 per cent of manganese.
