Abstract

471,254. Valves. KNOWLES, R. J., SPRINGETT, A. H., and FARRELL, J. A. March 5, 1936, No. 6666. [Class 135] A tap or cock comprises a body wth inlet 1, Fig. 1, and outlet 2, and a removable unit comprising a seat 5 against which a poppet valve 6 is held by a spring 9. The valve is opened by a cam 16 which acts on the end 10 (formed by a hard steel cap) of the valve stem, the cam being mounted on an offset shaft 15 in a housing 13 and rotated by a handle 17. In Fig. 2, the shaft 15 is screw-threaded at 18 enabling the cam 16 to be made of quicker pitch without being liable to backward movement. Or serrations and resilient means may be provided to retain the valve open.
