Abstract

470,667. Actuating valves. PAWLIKOWSKI, R. Feb. 12, 1936, No. 18352. Divided out of 470,272, [Group XXVII]. [Class 135] [Also in Groups XXVI, XXVII, and XXVIII] In a fuel supply arrangement for a pulverized fuel engine packing bands 1, 2, 3 of porous material e.g. felt, fabric, asbestos, or artificial resin sponge, &c., are arranged in grooves between a sliding element such as the piston 7, suction and discharge valves 10, 11 and inlet valve 12, and its guide to prevent metallic contact between the parts. The valves 10 and 11 are actuated by friction between the packing 1 and piston rod 30 and their stroke is limited by adjustable stops 35, 36 which may be controlled by the engine governor. in another arrangement, Fig. 4, the valves 10, 11 and 12 are arranged concentrically with the piston 7 and are all actuated from the piston by the frictional grip of the bands. The bands may be housed in the stationary or movable member and may be expanded or contracted by springs, a metal band preferably being arranged between the springs and bands.
