749,273. Extra-air valves. VAYNE, L. June 15, 1955, No. 22327/53. Class 7(2) In a supplementary air valve comprising a casing 1, 4, open at one end through inlets 5 to the atmosphere and open at the other end 2 to an engine induction manifold, a seating 8 with apertures 9 therein movably disposed in the casing, and a disc 10 biased by a spring 12 against the seating 8 under the influence of a reduced pressure in the manifold to permit air flow through the casing, the seating 8 is displaceable against the action of a spring 11 to uncover openings 4a in the side of the casing to relieve excess pressure in the manifold. The inlets 5 are inclined and the apertures 9 are tangentially arranged whilst the disc 10 and seating 8 are supported on a rod 7; the air follows the path indicated by the arrows and is given a helical movement by the apertures 9. The relative loading of the springs is dependent upon the extent to which the casing parts 1 and 4 are threaded into each other and the length of the rod 7 within the casing.
