Abstract
470,210. Loom shedding-mechanism. NELSON, Ltd., J., and EASTWOOD, J. N. June 26,1936, No. 17759. [Class 142 (i)] In order that the shedding tappets E may be turned backwards or forwards by the weaver to get back to a broken pick without turning the top shaft B, the wheel A driving the tappet shaft is mounted loosely on the top shaft, its boss being connected by screws c to balance wheel C. This is loosely mounted on the shaft B and is normally clutched thereto, for example, by a headed peg H slidable in an arm G fixed to the shaft B and normally engages a hole in the balance wheel. The peg is acted upon by a spring g<1> and a weaker spring c<3> and can be disengaged from the hole by pressing on the spring c<3>, whereupon the balance wheel can be freely turned. Modified means for clutching the balance wheel to the top shaft are shown. In one, a spring-controlled lever on the balance wheel has a projection normally engaging a notch &c. in a collar fixed to the shaft, in another a slidable radially-mounted bolt engages the notch &c.
