Abstract
469,764. Ball mills for metal powders. ENGLISH METAL POWDER CO., Ltd., and MEYERSBERG, H. Jan. 31 1936, No. 3054. [Class 59] [Also in Group XVI] In a ball mill for the manufacture of metal powders lubricant is added to the powder passing through the mill after it has travelled more than half-way thereof. As shown in Fig. 1, a transparent lubricant container 13 is mounted on the drum 2 of the ball mill and a small quantity of lubricant enters the mill through a valve 14 at each revolution. The valve is held on its seat by a spring 15 and is opened each time the head 16 strikes a cam surface 19 adjustable by an eccentric 21. The pressure in the drum and oil container is equalized through a pipe 23 and filter 24 and a guard 25 may protect the valve 14. In Fig. 2 a series of containers 13 is provided along the length of the drum 2 and the powder is fed through the mill by a hopper 1 and air blast from a blower 3. The foil is separated at 4, the coarse material returning to the mill whilst the fines are carried into bag separators 6, 10, the air returning to fan 3 whilst the separated material is discharged into polishing drums 9, 11.
