Abstract
469,515. Catalytic combustion apparatus. SCHIMMEL, H., and KERB-KONUSGES. July 16, 1936, No. 19729. [Class 75 (i)] Gas and air are supplied through tubes b, c to a heating tube a filled with small, porous, non-sintering tubes d coated with a catalyst such as platinum sponge. The tube a may be made of quartz or of metal with one or more radiation windows or panels of refractory material and is provided with sieves e, f and preferably a delivery pipe g for the combustion products. The tubes d may be arranged regularly in the tube a to reduce the resistance to the gas flow. The tubes b, c may be controlled separately or by a common cock. Ignition is effected automatically by the catalyst, the tube a being preferably preheated when a gas of low calorific value is used.
