[Class 75 (i)] [See also Group XIII] A liquid heater having a laminated heating body 2 is provided with an atmospheric perforated-tube gas burner 5, the outlet openings of which have a cross-section of not more than 1À2 mm.<2> and preferably 0À6 mm.<2> when the burner is not cooled and not more than 5 mm.<2> and preferably 2 mm.<2> when the burner is cooled. The height h from the upper edge of the burner to the lower edge of the heating body 2 corresponds substantially to the height of the flames when the burner is full on, the cross-sections of flow in the body 2 being sufficiently large to permit unrestrained escape of the combustion gases and provide the lift required for complete combustion. As shown, the burner comprises a plurality of perforated tubes 10 extending from both sides of a distributing chamber 9. The tubes 10 may be arranged in two or more parallel horizontal planes as shown in Fig. 4 or in an inclined plane as shown in Fig. 6. The burner may be cooled by passing water through a chamber on the underside of the chamber 9.
