Abstract

Gas-fires are provided with a mixing-chamber arranged above the level of the burners and situated, together with the pipes supplying gas and air to the chamber and delivering the mixture to the burners, between the radiants and the back of the fire. In the stove shown, gas discharged from the nozzle 2 passes, together with air, up the Venturi-tube 3 to the mixing-chamber 4, the mixture passing thence by the pipes 5, 6 to the burner 7. The chamber 4 and tubes 3, 5, 6 lie between the radiants 8 and fire-clay back 11, which is recessed for the purpose. To cause the radiants to heat quickly they are spaced from the back; as shown in Fig. 2, they may have curved tops, whilst in the case of straight radients the back may be curved outwardly to meet them, as shown at 9.
