Abstract

265,041. Frankfurter Gasges., and Schumacher, E. April 13, 1926. Atmospheric gas burners; flame spreaders and deflectors. - A heating burner utilizing high pressure gas-air mixture comprises a chamotte or like refractory plate, which is spaced apart from an object to be heated, the flames being directed into contact with the plate but maintained out of contact with the object, and the combustion gases being whirled between the plate and the object so that heating is effected by radiation from the plate and directly by the combustion gases. In one form, the mixture is supplied through a pipe 1, Fig. 1, to downwardly inclined jets 2 and the flames contact with a plate 4 having a raised edge 6 to whirl the combustion gases upwardly against the bottom of a utensil 3. An asbestos or like heatinsulating plate may be arranged underneath the plate 4. Secondary air may be drawn in through openings 7 or supplied under pressure through a central pipe 15, Fig. 3, to outlets 14 above the jets 2 or through an annular passage surrounding the pipe 1 and terminating below the jets 2. The latter may be replaced by a single annular outlet. In a second form, the gas-air jets 2, Fig. 2, are arranged separately, and preferably obliquely, around the edge of a plate 4 having a central projection 8 to whirl the combustion gases. In a third form, secondary air jets are provided in openings, or formed, preferably obliquely, in the rim of the plate 4, the jets in the latter case being supplied through a metal jacket covering the side or bottom or both side and bottom of the plate 4 so that the supply is preheated and radiation of heat horizontally and downwardly from the plate is diminished. Alternatively, the mixture may be supplied to the jets at the rim of the plate and the secondary air to the jets 2 at the centre. In a fourth form. burners having gas-air jets and secondary air jets are arranged around the rim of the plate. The burners may be arranged in an inverted manner above a grid 35 in an over 34 or the like or rectangular chamotte plates 36 having a slightly arched lower surface, or a central raised portion, may be employed with perforated tubes 38 arranged centrally below, or at each side of. the plates, respectively.
