GAS STOVE OR RANGE AND ATTACHMENTS THEREFOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2, 1917.
Application led January 20, 1914. Serial No. 813,216.
To all fr0/0m t may concern Be it known that l, CLAUDE ARNOLD RIP- PER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Eden street, Arncliffe, near Sydney, in the State of New South Tales and Commonwealth of Australia, mechanic, have invented a new and useful Improved Gas Stove or Range and'Attachments Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has been specially devised in order to provide an improved gas stove or range in which the heating etliciency of a solid fuel stove is cheaply and easily obtained and in which the oven is isolated from the gas fumes, and to provide an improved gas burner of simple construction for such stove by which a minimum quantity of gas for the purpose desired is consumed.
This improved gas stove and attachments therefor comprise an oven or ovens with top, side, bottom and back flues and a lire box or furnace wherein is a peculiarly constructed series of gas burners and a quantity of asbestos or other incandescible material adapted to be raised to incandescence by the combustion of gas and air mixture from the burners and so provide all necessary heat for all the functions of said stove or range. But in order that this invention may be more easily understood it will now be described with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specificationy which illustrate an improved gas stove or range and attachments of simple construction and having but one oven.
Figure 1 is a front vertical sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan of same on line 3 3 of Fig. 1 with burners removed. Fig. 3 is an end sectional view on line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
The fire box 10 is preferably lined with iire brick 11 and is adapted to receive a set 12 of gas burners which support a quantity of asbestos or like incandescible material 13. The oven 142 is partially surrounded by top, side and bottom flues 15, 16 and 17 the latter one of which has a battle 18. This bottom iue 17 is connected by diagonal liue 19 (having asbestos covering) with back flue 2O which extends at right angles into back top iue 21 and leads into outlet flue or uptake 22. A water container 23 is positioned at one side of the tire box 10 and is in communication with a conveyer or heating passage as a coil 24: extending into said lire box. A stayed extension bracket 25 carrying a gas ring 26 with an independent gas supply is conveniently placed at one end of the structure and a plate warming chamber 27 is provided below the bottom line 17. The gas for the burners 12 and ring 26 is supplied through pipes 2S.
In operation when burners have been lighted, the asbestos or other material in the tire box soon becomes heated and by natural draft the hot gases pass along the to iiue 15 down flue 16 and through bottom ue 17 and passage 19 into back flue 2O and thence through back top iiue 21 into outlet or uptake 22.
The plurality of pot holes in the top or hot plate of the stove afford opportunities for heating simultaneously with the oven by means of the hot gases in lines 15 and 21 and enable extra cooking to be done without materially affecting the heat of said oven.
lVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A gas stove having a fire box, burners positioned within the lire box, a quantity of incandescible material associated with the burners for direct contact with the flames issuing from the saine, the vertical walls of the tirebox being lined with refractory material, an oven positioned adjacent to one of said walls and being spaced from the stove top to afford a top flue in communication with the rebox, the stove having continuations of said flue extending around the sides and the bottom of the oven, diagonally beneath the lirebox from one corner of the oven bottom, and upwardly in a diagonal direction past the rebox and oven, and an auxiliary top flue leading from the upper end of the last-mentioned flue continuation through the top flue and having walls separating it from direct communication with the latter.
ln testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CLAUDE ARNOLD RIPPER.
