Abstract

469,247. Soot blowers. SIMPSON, J. W. L. Jan. 21, 1936, No. 1936. [Class 99 (ii)] The nozzled tube 2 of a soot blower is advanced and retracted by a worm wheel 5, Fig. 1, which is rotated by a worm 8 and is in screwthreaded engagement with a sleeve 6, the latter being loosely mounted between abutments 2a, 2b on an extension 2c of the blower tube and provided with one or more longitudinal keyways 2d to receive fixed keys 7a in the blower housing 7. The blower tube may be formed with a helical &c. channel to receive a pin 17 projecting from an extension 7b of the housing 7 so that it is rotated during the whole or part of its axial movement. In a modification, Fig. 2, the worm wheel 5 is spliced as at 20 to the sleeve 6 and the latter is in screwthreaded engagement with a fixed nut 26 located in the blower housing. The supply of cleaning fluid from the inlet conduit 9 to the blower tube is controlled by the valve arrangement 11 described in Specification 456,718.
