Abstract
467,271. Two - part couplings. EDWARDS, L. C. Dec. 17, 1935, No. 35001. [Class 38 (i)] A cap for a multiple filament lamp comprises relatively-movable parts for varying the connection of the filaments to the supply, the parts being resiliently retained in the various positions to prevent movement therefrom except by deliberate operation. The shell 1 carrying the bayonet-pins 2, or other means for attachment to a holder, encloses fixed insulating blocks 3, 4, the lower having a pair of contact plates 17 connected to the cap contacts. Another block 5 secured to the bulb by a shell 6, carries three contacts 19 with projections 22 to engage the plates 17 under the action of a spring 11 that acts longitudinally on a pin 7 on which the block 5 turns. The blocks 4, 5 have interfitting segmental projections 14, 15 that retain the blocks in any of several relative positions so that the filaments can be operated singly or in series or parallel. According to the Provisional Specification the contacts themselves may be resilient to form the locking device.
