Abstract

467,041. Vapour burners. SPIRIG, J. Jan. 18, 1936, No. 1712. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1935. [Class 75 (i)] Liquid fuel is supplied through a pipe 16 to a nozzle 14 projecting into a conical vaporizer 6 which is attached by ribs 7 to a burner tube 1 secured to the furnace door. The nozzle 14 carries a cap 12 fitting over the end of the vaporizer and pressed against it by springs 23 arranged between a plate 20 secured to the nozzle 14 and a plate 22 secured to the tube 1. The tube 1, which has a tapered inner surface is formed with longitudinal slots at its inner end and with an inwardly projecting rib 4 at its outer end. At starting fuel supplied to the vaporizer 6 overflows or leaks between the end of the vaporizer and the cap 12 on to an asbestos wick 26 in the burner tube 1. This wick is ignited and causes vaporization of the fuel in the vaporizer. The vapour becomes ignited as it escapes between the vaporizer and the cap 12, which is moved outwardly by the vapour pressure. Internal ribs 10 in the vaporizer conduct the heat to the fuel which flows over the cooler parts of the vaporizer. before reaching the hotter parts.
