Abstract
185,476. Hoffman, W. M. May 23, 1921. Porous block burners; vaporizing-apparatus.- A liquid-fuel burner is made with a casing a, Fig. 1. jacketed for a portion of its length, surrounding a porous refractory core b through which liquid fuel, passing from the jacket c through perforations e, is forced for combustion with air or steam supplied by a nozzle g. In one form the liquid-fuel jacket c, Fig. 2, is provided with a median wall f to prevent oil from flowing into the lower part of the jacket. Apertures may be provided in the median wall f to allow a small portion of the oil to flow to the lower section of the jacket. In another form the oil is heated before entering the jacket by passing through a hollow ring disposed in front of the combustion chamber so as to be heated thereby.
