Abstract

466,286. Radiators for aircraft &c. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., HALL, G. W., and LOBELLE, M. J. O. Dec. 12, 1935, No. 34492. [Class 29] The flow of hot air or cold air or both to an oil cooler b is regulated in accordance with the oil pressure acting on a piston e against a spring g arranged in the oil inlet pipe a of the cooler, the piston being connected to louvres c, Fig. 1, shown as controlling the supply of hot air while leaving uncontrolled the cold air passages h. Where the cold air passages are controlled the louvres act in an opposite sense to those of the hot air passage, and may be actuated from the same or a separate piston. A plate o, Fig. 3, with two apertures s, t may have an arcuate or sliding motion over branch passages u, v, for hot and cold air leading to a single air passage to the cooler. According to the Provisional Specification a shutter plate with rectilinear or arcuate motion may have an aperture the effective area of which increases gradually to a maximum and then decreases more rapidly.
