Abstract

465,940. Orthopaedic devices for footwear. SCHWEIGER, H. L. July 20, 1936, No. 21660/35. [Class 17 (ii)] An orthopaedic appliance for insertion in footwear comprises a substantially J-shaped pad in plan with a skived seating or socket for the heel bone and a support with inner skived edge for the inner longitudinal arch of the foot. As shown, the appliance comprises a socket 1 for the heel bone, an extension 5 on the shorter limb of the J for supporting the outer longitudinal arch, a longer extension 2 formed by the longer limb of the J for the inner longitudinal arch, and a support 3 for the metatarsal arch. In modifications, the support 3 is separate from the remainder, or is omitted. The appliance may be built up of laminae of leather, steel, rubber, cork,.wood, or synthetic resins, secured together by adhesive, to suit the peculiarities of an' individual foot, and is inserted in new or old footwear and covered by a sock.
