Abstract

465,759. Delivering material from hoppers; conveyers. LEGG, O. Feb. 22, 1936, No. 5375. [Class 78 (i)] Fibrous or granular material is conveyed upwards from a hopper 1 by an endless ribbed belt 3 passing into and through the hopper, pivoted plates 7, 9 being positioned normally to close the sides of the opening in the hopper for the passage of the belt, these plates being pivoted upwardly by the ribs 5 and arranged so that the opening is always closed by one of them. Any material falling on to the plate 9 gravitates against the belt and is carried upwards by an adjacent rib 5. The ribs may have flat upper surfaces or be trough-shaped as shown. A horizontal belt may extend across the bottom of the hopper when this is flat, to convey material to the ribs 5. This belt may constitute the bottom of the hopper and may convey material into the hopper through an aperture in the side thereof opposite the belt 3.
