Abstract
729,175. Discharging endless-belt conveyers; feeding hoppers. RONCERAY, R. A. M. Jan. 5, 1953 [Nov. 28, 1952], No. 315/53. Class 78 (1). A bunker apparatus for foundry sand or similar material of the kind having a conveyer belt 5 supported on a frame 1 above a bunker 2 provided with a discharge gate 3, and two scrapers 7 for discharging material from the belt into the bunker at an automatically variable rate which is high when the bunker is empty but decreases as the bunker fills up, is characterised in that the bunker is suspended from the frame by resilient means 4 so that the bunker may rise and fall vertically as it is unloaded and loaded respectively and that the scrapers are mounted on vertical pivots 8 at opposite sides of the belt, the scrapers being connected to the bunker so that they are pivoted across the belt as the bunker rises and falls, thereby automatically varying the rate of discharge into the bunker according to the vertical position of the bunker. The resilient means 4 comprises two hollow cylinders, one attached to the bunker and the other to the frame 1 : alternatively, it may comprise a spiral spring. Each scraper is connected to the bunker by a cable 12 passing over a pulley 13, and to a counterweight 15 by a cable 16 passing over a pulley 17, the cable 12 extending from a tension device 14 to a scraper on the same side of the belt. and the cable 16 passing from the counterweight 15 through an opening 18 in the adjacent scraper to the scraper on the opposite side of the belt. As the bunker fills it sinks and through the cables 12 opens the sprapers so that a decreasing amount of sand is discharged from the belt, and when the bunker is full no sand is removed from the belt. As the sand is removed from the bunker through the gate 3, the bunker rises whereby the scrapers close gradually under the action of the counterweight and an increasing amount of sand is discharged from the conveyer belt.
