Abstract

Dischurging devices for endless-belt, chain, and rope conveyers; jigging conceyers.-Apparatus for grading coal, coke, stone, ore, &c. comprises a jigging trough or other conveyer for the material and means by which the various sizes of material are successively discharged over the side of the trough &c. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3 the conveying trough 1 is mounted to reciprocate on rails 2 and the bulk of the material is fed at 6. Above the trough is mounted a rocking or rotating shaft 13 carrying arms 14 supporting a holder 15 for a comb 16 the distance between the prongs of which diminishes from the feed to the discharge end of the trough. In a modification shown in Fig. 4, the comb holder 22 carries a plurality of combs and is rotatably mounted in the arms 14 of the rock-shaft 13. A pinion 23 on the comb-holder engages a fixed rack 24 and causes the holder to rotate during its traverse. According to modifications, the trough may be of any desired shape such as curved, flat, corrugated, &c., and the comb may be actuated by any usual reciprocating or endless-chain device. The comb-holder may be arranged in helical or circular relation to the shaft 13. The grading may be varied by adjusting the partitions between the hoppers, or by adjusting the spacing of the prongs. The alternate prongs may be carried by separate holders to which a differential movement may be imparted to release material that has become lodged between them, or the combs may be vibrated by contacting with a corrugated rack &c. in their traverse. Where rough grading only is required, the prongs may be dispensed with and the grading is determined by the space between a longitudinal plate and the bottom of the trough.
