Abstract

Compositions for treatment of the skin are prepared by mixing with an oily or unguentous carrier an organic peroxidic or ozonidic compound. Acidic peroxides such as benzoyl, salicyl peroxides and the peroxides of butyric, lactic, caprylic, lauric, palmitic, stearic, phenylacetic, chaulmoorgric and "hydrocarpic" acids are suitable and also the derivatives of corresponding anhydrides, salts or esters. Peroxides of alcohols, esters, ketones, ethers and aldehydes may also be used. Mild oxygen splitting catalysts may be added. Vehicles containing lanolin, spermaceti, beeswax, soaps, vegetable, animal and mineral oils, higher fatty acids, zinc oxide, boric acid, borax, gum tragacanth, gum acacia, and essential oils are suitable. The compositions may be used as ointments, nasal sprays and toothpastes.
